Dubbed the Hollywood of Video Games by The Guardian in 2014, Guildford’s games industry has only built upon its raft of successes since. Over 70 game development studios base themselves here employing around 1,500 people and Guildford, with its historic High Street, picturesque riversides and hectares of stunning green landscapes only 30 mins from London, continues to act as a magnet for entrepreneurs of all sectors.
The digital games sector is a very high priority in Guildford Borough Council’s economic plans. We strongly supported the inaugural Guildford Games Festival in 2019 and we are proud to be a headline sponsor of its second instalment in 2020. With future inward investment in mind, we worked closely with Enterprise M3 to help secure the award of our regions High Potential Opportunity status, in recognition of our boroughs games sector strengths.
Our borough is also home to one of the country’s first-class research universities – University of Surrey - with its cutting-edge Satellite technology, 5G and cyber security expertise. We also have the largest fleet of electric buses outside of London, built locally by Alexander Dennis. We are passionate about our environment and declared a Climate Change emergency in 2019.
