The University for the Creative Arts was founded in 2005 and was formerly known as the Surrey Institute for Art & Design. UCA is the latest incarnation of this leading creative education institution, with a legacy dating back over 160 years in Farnham.
In 2019 UCA was named the Modern University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide and UCA is the 2nd largest provider of creative education in Europe. In addition, the Office for Students has recognised the quality of our teaching and awarded us ‘Gold’ in the Teaching Excellence Framework.
We have 3 Games degrees at our UCA Farnham campus, near Guildford:
> BA Games Arts
> BSc Games Technology
> MA Games Design.
We also run a Games Incubator Studio, which each year supports selected entrepreneurial graduates to launch their first indie game to market.
Our Games graduates have gone on to work at many of the leading games industry studios, including SuperMassive Games, nDreams, Creative Assembly, Guerrilla Games, TT Games, Codemasters, Rebellion, TT Games, Hanger 13, Playground Games, SEGA, Two Point Studios, PlaySport Games and many other AAA, AA, iii and indie studios in the UK and abroad.
In addition, UCA Games graduates have taken their highly transferable skills and adaptable workflows to other parts of the creative industries including Serious Games, VR, AR, VFX for TV and film.
As a specialist arts institution, we are 100% creative. Our students develop their skills and thinking in environments that replicate the studios found within the creative industries.
Our alumni are made up of Oscar-winning filmmakers and animators, world-renowned fashion designers, television presenters and Turner-Prize nominees. These are just some of UCA's high-profile graduates who have enriched the world with their creative talents. Taught and guided by our experienced, industry-connected academic staff, our students reap the benefits of studying at the highest-ranked creative specialist in the UK.
